One Last Attempt At Family (Or “The Hangover Pod”)
Episode 24
Noah and Chance were reunited over the holidays when they spent a few very head-achy days in a dim and borrowed living room. Back together in their Nebraska college town, they rang in 2016 watching three movies (all covered in the 2015 “Trailer Pod,” by the way) about trying to reconcile with family before it’s too late. Did Liam Neeson save his son from hitmen in “Run All Night”? Did the sellout pop star Danny Collins strut and clown his way into his estranged family’s life? Does “Mississippi Grind” even really fit this category? Did Noah and Chance ever leave Nebraska? Questions are answered and Chance’s childhood bedroom is revealed. Enjoy.
Chance and Noah return to the warm embrace of each other’s arms. And when one is in Nebraska, one must have one’s first meal (and subsequent intestinal distress) at Village Inn. Sure, Chance and Noah were thrown off by the wait staff’s penchant for small talk, but being back together made the experience worth while.
After a brief pit-stop in Omaha, the twosome journeyed through the harsh back roads of Gretna to the scene of the crime: Lincoln. Home of their alma mater, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Cornhuskers, the highest concentration of bars on one street and a large contingent of BRG listeners.
The Haymarket. Lincoln’s historic district has been built up dramatically since Noah’s departure. Here’s the view from their hotel room.
Not even the excitement of New Year’s Eve can keep Chance from tweeting about the latest BRG episode!
When the waiter said, “We can double them for $4 more,” who knew he meant another quart!
No better place to hang out after consuming two quarts of Bloody Mary than Indigo Bridge Books. Noah took great pleasure in finding his name in the acknowledgments for several titles he worked on back in NYC.
New Year’s Eve was a complete mess, so Noah and Chance took New Year’s Day to relax on the couch and watch three movies back-to-back-to-back, breaking only to eat Noodle’s and Co. and be involved in a minor fender bender.
No hangover is complete with a trip to the recently remodeled Valentino’s adjacent to UNL’s east campus!
It wouldn’t be a Chance and Noah (and BRG) reunion without a trip to the movies at the Grand in downtown Lincoln. Note Chance and Noah’s skeptical expressions after viewing the new Marcus advertising campaign!
No trip to Lincoln is complete without a trip to O’Rouke’s and running into a few ghosts from their pasts.
What a wonderful trip! Thanks to all who became collateral damage of a fine reunion!

Movie Reviews & Reappraisals
Be Reel was a movie reviewing & reappraising podcast hosted by Chance Solem-Pfeifer and Noah Ballard.
We cherished our 8-year run, talking to filmmakers like Gus Van Sant, insulting each other’s taste, and laughing to high heaven.
Chance’s new movie podcast, The Kick, continues to explore curated sub-genres and movie geekery. Noah is a frequent and beloved guest.
